Too much in our world, in our lives, in our culture uproots us from our embodied selves, turns us into talking heads, out of touch with the physicality of our experience.

But we are embodied beings. We experience all things in our bodies. And it is through our bodies–through movement, exploration, expression, attention, and awareness–that we we can cultivate the sensitivity and resilience to be fully human in this moment.

This ten week 5Rhythms Waves course with Accredited 5Rhythms Teacher Melanie Cooley will take you deep into the fundamentals of 5Rhythms as an embodiment practice, with the goal of integrating the rhythms into your daily life and building a supportive community of practice. The course will consist of five in-person sessions where we will ground ourselves in the roots of the rhythms, planting the seeds of a movement-based meditative practice that will bring us home to our bodies. An online community and at-home exercises will carry those seeds through into your daily life, nourishing them, and opening possibilities of true transformation. Online work begins February 23. In person, March 2.

My classes are open to and affirming of people of all genders, gender expressions, sexualities, races, ethnicities, ages, sizes, religions, and abilities. This is a drug and alcohol-free space.

Hourly Schedule

March 2, 2019: Flowing

11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Curving, continuous, spiraling, and soft movements. Grounded in the feet and focused on the in-breath. Receptive, soft. Internally-focused. Freeing the body.

March 16, 2019: Staccato

11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Percussive, angular movements with clear stops and starts, clear endings and beginnings. Focused on the out breath. Active. Rooted in the hips. Extending and meeting the world from center.

March 30, 2019: Chaos

Rag doll, released, unpredictable movements. The dance when flowing and staccato meet. Open lungs, balanced breaths. Letting go of control without being out of control. Shaking off what needs to be left behind. Releasing the head to follow the body. Emptying the mind.

April 13, 2019: Lyrical

Light, weightless, expansive movements. Letting go of effort. Repetitions that arise and fade away. Your hands are the wings of your heart, leading your feet through the space. Awakening the soul.

April 27, 2019: Stillness

11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Breath-guided movement, expanding on the inhale, contracting on the exhale. Moving the spaces between. Full-body engagement. Embodying the spirit.
