True: A 5Rhythms Dance for the New Year

I look forward to dancing with you in the new year!

“A great truth comes over him: Trees fall with spectacular crashes. But planting is silent and growth is invisible.” ~ Richard Powers, The Overstory

The words “true” and “tree” share the same ancient root. Steadfast. Solid.

The more we learn about trees, the more we know what our ancestors knew: that they are active beings with their own intelligence, communicating with one another, shaping the world around them.

At the turning point of the year is a moment of transition. Of integration. Of old and new. Ancient wisdoms and modern humans. And at that turning point, we dance. As our ancestors danced. Offering bodies, sweat, breath, beat to what has gone before, shedding what is compost, and calling in the dawn of a new decade.

We dance for what is true. We dance to true ourselves.

All dancers are encouraged to wear white for the dance and ceremony. And bring a sense of what you want to let go to compost and what you want to cultivate. You won’t have to share with anyone, and it will help you focus your intention for the ceremony if you’ve given it some thought before we gather.
